Glass spheroid with layer effects

glasswithout.gif (9279 bytes)

It's amazing what you can achieve with just using the layer effects in Photoshop 5... Take a look at this picture and tell me if you can see a glass spheroid... I don't....

This is how the picture would look like when you hide all layer effects....

Well... let's add some layer effects then...

sphere1.gif (2281 bytes)

1.gif (1314 bytes)

In the first layer I applied several layer effects and the basic shape is just a green filled circle as you can see here.

innerglow.gif (2653 bytes)

These are the layer effects I used in the first layer on that green circle. First Inner glow....

innershadow1.gif (3081 bytes)

Inner shadow....

bevel1.gif (4788 bytes)

Bevel and Emboss...

dropshadow1.gif (3114 bytes)

...and drop shadow

layer1.jpg (16750 bytes)

Layer 1 should now look something like the picture here to the left

layer2.jpg (9008 bytes)

2.gif (1308 bytes)

Mark the shape and add a new layer. Contract (select/modify) the selection with about 5 - 10 pixels. Hold down the Alt key and use the elliptical marque tool to create a selection/shape like the one you can see in the top of the spheroid.

fill it with a light green shade and set layer opacity to 8 - 10 %

outerglow2.gif (2498 bytes)

3.gif (1293 bytes)

Then apply the Layer effect Outerglow with settings here to the left....

layer3.jpg (9369 bytes)

4.gif (1305 bytes)

Add a new layer and create a small oval with the elliptical marque tool, fill it with white and rotate it slightly to the left.

outerglow2.gif (2498 bytes)

5.gif (1318 bytes)

Apply the Outer Glow effect on this layer and set the opacity to about 50%

layer4.jpg (9549 bytes)

6.gif (1309 bytes)

Add a new layer and create a smaller and narrower oval with the elliptical marque tool, fill it with white and rotate it slightly to the left.

outerglow3.gif (2546 bytes)

7.gif (1314 bytes)

Apply the Outer Glow effect on this layer and set the opacity to 100%

outerglow5.gif (2510 bytes)

8.gif (1317 bytes)

Copy that oval shape and paste it into a new layer. Apply the Outer glow effect with these settings and set the layer opacity to 25 - 30 %

layer5.jpg (9718 bytes)

And this is how it would look like when you're done.... no filters, no plugins... just the layer effects and layer opacity....

Pretty cool..... :-)
